The Welsh Dragon Series
The WELSH DRAGON SERIES has developed from the
3 year old grass championship race previously run at Tregaron. The 3yo grass championship was one of the
highlights of the meeting for the past few years. However in an attempt to create something new and different the 3
yo grass championship was succeeded by a 3 year old stakes race with a
completely new format and became ‘The Little Welsh Dragon’. By now the Little Welsh Dragon has developed
into a series of aged stakes races and foals born in 2011 will become part of
the WELSH DRAGON SERIES XI.
The first DDRAIG FACH GYMREIG/LITTLE WELSH DRAGON (for 3 year
olds) was run in August 2004, by now
the series features at both the Tregaron meetingsand now split into separate
divisions for colts/geldings and
fillies:
THE JUNIOR WELSH DRAGON for
2yo colts & geldings is run at the Treagron August Festival Meeting
THE JUNIOR WELSH DRAGONESS for
2yo fillies is run at the Treagron August Festival Meeting
THE LITTLE WELSH DRAGON for 3yo colts &
geldings is run at the Treagron August
Festival Meeting
THE LITTLE WELSH DRAGONESS for
3yo fillies is run at the Treagron
August Festival Meeting
THE SENIOR WELSH DRAGON for
4yo colts, geldings and fillies is run at the Tregaorn May Spring Meeting
Horses are nominated when they are foals, followed by payment of
sustaining fees at different times. ONLY horses that are fully paid up (or
supplemented) are eligible to race in the WELSH DRAGON SERIES
WELSH DRAGON SERIES VIII ~ FOALS BORN IN 2008 will be eligible for the 2012 SENIOR
WELSH DRAGON

The nominations for the 2012 and 2013 LITTLE WELSH
DRAGON have now closed, but horses may still be supplemented into the series
