The Welsh Dragon Series
The WELSH DRAGON SERIES has developed from the
3 year old grass championship race previously run at Tregaron. The 3yo grass championship was one of the
highlights of the meeting for the past few years. However in an attempt to create something new and different the 3
yo grass championship was succeeded by a 3 year old stakes race with a
completely new format and became ‘The Little Welsh Dragon’.
The first DDRAIG FACH GYMREIG/LITTLE WELSH DRAGON (for 3 year
olds) was run in 2004, since then it
has developed into a series of races for colts/geldings and fillies:
THE JUNIOR WELSH DRAGON for
2yo colts & geldings at the Treagron
August Festival Meeting
THE JUNIOR WELSH DRAGONESS for
2yo fillies at the Treagron August Festival Meeting
THE LITTLE WELSH DRAGON for 3yo colts &
geldings at the Treagron August Festival Meeting
THE LITTLE WELSH DRAGONESS for
3yo fillies at the Treagron August
Festival Meeting
THE SENIOR WELSH DRAGON for
4yo colts, geldings and fillies at the Tregaorn May Spring Meeting
NEW THE HOME DRAGON for 4yo cots,
geldings and fillies eligible for Senior Dragon in same ownership as when
nominated as foal, Treagron August Festival Meeting
Horses are nominated when they are foals, followed by payment of
sustaining fees at different times. ONLY horses that are fully paid up (or
supplemented) are eligible to race in the WELSH DRAGON SERIES
For example FOALS BORN IN 2009
will be eligible for the
2011 JUNIOR WELSH DRAGON ~ 2012 LITTLE WELSH
DRAGON ~ 2013 SENIOR WELSH DRAGON, providing the following payments are
maintained
Nomination fee £10 due by 1st March
2010
1st Sustaining Fee £15
due by 1st March 2011 (if
you wish to enter 2yo Junior Dragon £50 due 1st July 2010))
2nd Sustaining Fee £50
due by 1st March 2012 (any horse that has paid this sustaining fee
is eligible to enter 4yo SWD May 2013)
3rd Sustaining Fee £100
due by 1st July 2012
Entry Fee £25
due by 15th Aug 2012 (3yo
LWD held in Aug Festival Meeting)
FOALS BORN
IN 2010 can now be
nominated, they will be eligible for the
2012 JUNIOR WELSH DRAGON ~ 2013 LITTLE WELSH
DRAGON ~ 2014 SENIOR WELSH DRAGON, providing the following payments are
maintained
Nomination fee £10
due by 1st March 2011
1st Sustaining Fee £15
due by 1st March 2012 (if
you wish to enter 2yo Junior Dragon £50 due 1st July 2011)
2nd Sustaining Fee £50
due by 1st March 2013 (any horse that has paid this sustaining fee
is eligible to enter 4yo SWD May 2014)
3rd Sustaining Fee £100
due by 1st July 2013
Entry Fee £25
due by xth Aug 2013 (3yo LWD held in
Aug Festival Meeting)
The nominations for the 2009 and 2010 LITTLE WELSH
DRAGON have now closed, but horses may still be supplemented into the series
