The Welsh Dragon Series

The WELSH DRAGON SERIES has developed from the 3 year old grass championship race previously run at Tregaron.  The 3yo grass championship was one of the highlights of the meeting for the past few years. However in an attempt to create something new and different the 3 yo grass championship was succeeded by a 3 year old stakes race with a completely new format and became ‘The Little Welsh Dragon’.

 

The first DDRAIG FACH GYMREIG/LITTLE WELSH DRAGON (for 3 year olds) was run in 2004, then in 2005 the DDRAIG IAU GYMREIG/JUNIOR WELSH DRAGON (2 year olds) was introduced. The final stage of the series is the DDRAIG HYN GYMREIG/ THE SENIOR WELSH DRAGON (for 4 year olds), which was run for the first time in the SPRING MEETING at TREGARON, 2006

 

Horses are nominated when they are foals, followed by payment of sustaining fees at different times. ONLY horses that are fully paid up (or supplemented) are eligible to race in the 'DDRAIG FACH GYMREIG'

 

From 2008 the LITTLE WELSH DRAGON and the JUNIOR WELSH DRAGON will be split into a Colts/Geldings race and a Fillies Race

*  If you wish to supplement a 2yo (ie born 2006) ~ £500 due on or before 1st March 2009.  Horse will then be eligible to enter 3 yo LWD 2009 & 4 yo SWD 2010 (providing subsequent payments have been paid)
